ABOUT

Babbie's artistic interests began with her fascination with the outdoors as a child in New Jersey and early visits to the Museum of Modern Art in New York, where she encountered the work of de Kooning and Kandinsky.

During her years at the San Francisco Art Institute, she began experimenting, using rhythm and movement in the abstract rendering of natural forms which came about as an extension of her passion for music. Her mentor was a painting professor at SFAI, Julius Hatofsky, a great influence and supporter, they remained friends until his death in 2003. Other influences have been Joan Mitchell, Richard Diebenkorn, and Cecily Brown.

Burrows lived and painted in the San Francisco Bay area for 20 years before moving to Bozeman, Montana, in search of a broader landscape and more space. Since that time, her primary inspiration has been rivers, rocks, logjams, boulder fields, mountains and the forces that shaped them.

Burrows' paintings have been exhibited in group and solo exhibitions in California and Montana. In addition to private residences, her work is in corporate collections in California, including Hewlett Packard and Merrill Lynch, and the Bozeman Deaconess Hospital, Bozeman, Mt.
